St Luke’s CARES applied for this funding as they recognised that some young people need more support than can be offered in a youth group setting and through seeing first hand the effects of Domestic Violence, substance misusing parents, personal substance misuse, Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and family breakdown can have on the young people in the community.
Now three years on The Shine Project has supported, built good relationships and journeyed with over 200 girls in the local area. This has been through one to one mentoring, courses delivered in local high schools and the local community, lunch time and after school clubs at schools and groups in the local community.
In June 2015 we opened The Shine Nail Bar, a social enterprise to support the work of The Shine Project, it’s a brilliant space right in the heart of the community which has been a really exciting addition to the Shine family! We’re so pleased The Shine Project has become a well-established, valued service in Inner South Leeds and we look forward to continuing and developing all our work as we provide this much needed service for girls in LS10 and LS11.
