Formed in 2003, St Luke’s Cares was a response by a local church leadership team to “care more” about the local community and the things which were important to people in the area.
St Luke’s CARES, now 20 years old, is a charity and community anchor organisation in it’s own right which provides a variety of community projects to empower people living, within the areas of Beeston and Holbeck, Hunslet and Riverside, and Middleton Park, in inner South Leeds.
The charity’s aim is to have a positive impact on the lives of residents and this community by helping individuals to identify and overcome personal barriers, which prevent them from achieving their full potential. It does this by working with individuals, building their trust, building their confidence and helping them make positive steps in their lives.
At our core we believe and work in an asset based way, seeing that our community and the people here have so many positive things to offer through skills, abilities and diversity and they themselves are a key part of the solution to challenges faced.
The charity works with in the region of 500 people each year through its various projects, this is people who we have direct contact with weekly and does not include the large number of local residents who benefit from being able to access affordable household furniture and goods and a community welcome space from our charity shop.
We are a committed team of just over 20 staff and over 50 volunteers. Many of our staff started as volunteers and many live locally. We love the culture of the team at St Luke’s, a team who are passionate about their work, supportive, kind and friends as well as colleagues.
We truly couldn’t operate without our supporters, partners and funders and are thankful for the relationship we have been able to build.
How to fund us
We would love to hear from you if you’d be interested in supporting the work of St Luke’s as an individual, through your business, trust or grant making organisation. Although we aim to generate a large amount of our income through our charity shop we are still reliant on the generosity of grants and donations to enable us to do our work so any support no matter how big or small is so appreciated!
